it's starting to feel like summer is here

After a very long and arduous winter and spring our Surf Shack South location in Bay Village is very near being back open for business. We're going to have a whole new look in there but will still have the same great products we've always offered (and even some new brands too!). Stop on in this weekend and say hi if you're around, as we'll be completing the finishing touches for next week's holiday and grand re-opening.

And if you're in Bay Village this weekend make sure you check out the LBI Wine Fest going on. Always a great kick off to the summer. There's also a few other superb events happening this weekend if you are down on the Island:

• 1st Annual LBI Classic Fish Fry Benefit for Sandy Relief (benefits ALO as well)
• Frank Panzone Jr. Memorial Cruisin For A Cure

These are two solid events that support some tremendous causes, so if you're on the Island this weekend you've got plenty to do. We'll be seeing you at Surf Shack South next week and stop by our new (and permanent) Manahawkin skate shop The Shack anytime.

ALO's Skim Contest 8/18

ALO's Skim Contest in coordination with their LBI Longboard Classic takes place August 18th at 110th St in Long Beach Township. We're helping run and sponsor the Skim event and this year it's going to go off. Make sure to sign up soon, as the date is quickly approaching.

ALO Surf Stewards

Alliance for a Living Ocean has been shuffling some things up since new Executive Director Chris Huch (and Surf Shack rider) took things over this year. One of those shuffles is the Surf Stewards program. Surfers, skimboarders, bodyboarders, and any enjoyers of the ocean are the first line of defense in helping keep our beaches and oceans clean. It doesn't take much to just pick up a piece of trash every you're on the beach—if we don't keep our beaches clean who will?



That's why they're asking everyone to take their Surf Stewards Pledge by signing the petition here. By signing it you are saying: “As a surfer, I pledge to keep the beach and ocean pristine by cleaning up trash when I check the surf and leave the beach, reducing my use of disposable products, and educating myself and others on the importance of being environmentally friendly.”

It's pretty simple, and shows a committed effort to keeping our beaches clean. Take a minute to sign it, and set an example for everyone else.
